Two very valuable assets were added to St. James in 1988: A new Early Childhood program for 3-year-olds, and a new teacher for the class, Ms. Dixie Wilder. Dixie's expertise came with a Kindergarten Endorsement attached to her B.S. in Elementary Education from Texas A&M-Commerce, and many graduate hours in Early Childhood. Once the 3-year-old program was established and running well, Dixie moved to her current position as Kindergarten teacher. Ms. Wilder says she likes her classroom to be "colorful, fun, challenging, and NOISY! . . .a home away from home." On most any visit to her classroom, you will find the creative process in full swing! The children might be busy with puppets, puzzles, blocks, books, woodworking, music, art, or housekeeping - but they will definitely be BUSY! Dixie's philosophy with young children emphasizes the "process, not the product." This is Ms. Dixie's twenty-fourth year of teaching, and twenteth year at Saint James. She and husband, Vernon, are the parents of a grown son and daughter, and grandparents to Chloe O'Neill Lewis, a shining example of a St. James student in K4 this year!
